About the event
Join us for our first ever “Baking with Jane” event, featuring Scandinavian cardamom buns--and support the good work of the St Jane House at the same time!
Cardamom is a favorite Scandinavian spice. Here’s a chance to use cardamom in a variety of ways. We’ll make cardamom dough together, then instructors Brennan and Bryce Johnson will help you shape them to make a variety of goodies: traditional buns, bread, and sweet rolls. We will enjoy the fruits of our labor together, and each person will leave with dough to make their own sweet rolls at home.
Come enjoy Scandinavian inspired hospitality beginning at 8:30 AM. The class will start at 9:00 AM.
About the instructors:
Brennan Johnson is an itinerant baking and cooking teacher. His travels have taken him to France, Mexico, South America and most recently Japan. Prior to that he operated The Walnut Schoolhouse, a one-room baking school in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina.
Bryce Johnson is Brennan's father. He has been teaching bread classes for over a dozen years. He is a retired United Methodist Pastor. Since retiring Bryce makes bread at his home and sells at his local Farmers Markets and through his Community Supported Bakery.
About the Cooking/Baking with Jane Series:
What would hospitality be with out food??? From the early days of her life as a young woman in the 17th century Jane Frances de Chantal welcomed the hungry from her community into her home for soup and bread. Food has also been central to our offering of hospitality here at the St Jane House. Inspired by the power of food to help connect us across cultures in meaningful ways, we present this series that offers people an opportunity to learn and grow together, as well as share delicious food prepared in community.
This experience is limited to 12 guests and also serves as a fundraiser for the St Jane House. There are several donation levels to make it more accessible. If the tier for which you qualify is full, PLEASE add your name to the waiting list and we will contact you if a spot becomes available. This is not an uncommon occurence.
If you have any questions, or if you are not able to register online or would prefer to pay in another way, please contact Brian at 612.965.9556.
